Audubon Arkansas is a 2020 recipient of National Audubon Society's Plants for Birds Burke Grant. Advancing the use of native plants depends on increasing their visibility across the country and implementing native plant policies at the federal, state and local levels.
We and four Audubon chapters in Arkansas have started the process for having the week of April 20, 2020, be proclaimed “Native Plant Week” at state and municipal levels. Proclamations act as a spark for more public support for native plant gardening, habitat management, and ordinances.
Audubon Arkansas will make the request of Governor Hutchinson. Audubon Society of Central Arkansas, Northwest Arkansas Audubon and Tex-Ark Audubon will work with their mayors, while Hot Springs Village Audubon turns to their Property Owners' Association.
