Audubon Delta announced today that Charles Allen has been named Engagement Director for its regional office.
“We are so excited to welcome Charles into this new position. He has brought such passion to his work in Louisiana and across the Gulf as well as a clear, thoughtful, and inclusive vision. It is clear he not only understands but lives to steward and establish equitable and inclusive partnerships. I look forward to working with him in and honoring the ecological, cultural, and historical importance of the region as we strengthen and build relationships in pursuit of our collective conservation goals,” said Dawn O’Neal, Executive Director for Audubon Delta and Vice President the National Audubon Society.
Charles Allen has been with Audubon since June of 2018 years as the Community Engagement Director for the Gulf Coast where his work has focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion by working to enhance Audubon’s reach to underrepresented communities in the Gulf Coast region.
“I am so excited to transition into this new role as Community Engagement Director for the Audubon Delta. I wholeheartedly appreciate the vote of confidence in me from our Audubon colleagues in entrusting me with this new set of responsibilities. And, I greatly look forward to working with all our Audubon colleagues and others within the Delta region to forge some new relationships as well as continue cultivating many existing ones,” said Allen.
“The Delta is a region so steeped in rich history around movements and efforts to bring about equity and justice for all. We honor that work and the many people who made it possible.”
In his position as Engagement Director of Audubon Delta, Allen will be responsible for regional efforts to engage, activate, and grow Audubon’s traditional and college chapters as well as our grassroots membership, with the goal of deepening the sphere of influence of the Audubon network in Delta. He will also work to engage Audubon’s bipartisan network and conservation partners for successful policy campaigns and conservation leadership with a focus on climate and Mississippi River water issues.
Allen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana and his Master of Science in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Policy from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
