The Pascagoula River Audubon Center is the educational gateway to exploring nature and bayou habitats by offering educational programming for school groups while featuring local nature themes, a step back in time with the historic trolley ticket booth and Scout Hut, and hands-on learning opportunities to fit your needs. Daytime visitors can discover the outdoors on the nature trails, bayou pier, bird feeders, critter tanks, art gallery, kayak rentals, gift shop, and more!
The Center provides visitors and students direct exposure and experience in such a rich environment, serves as a demonstration site for environmentally-friendly landscaping, and is a portal to nature-based programming for all ages. The Pascagoula River Audubon Center is one of 41 educational facilities operated nationwide by the National Audubon Society.
The grounds and exhibits focus on the unique ecosystem of the Pascagoula River watershed, with native animals on display indoors and a native plant botanical garden surrounding the building. The model best practices for stormwater management on our grounds, where we utilize structures such as rain barrels and cisterns and permeable gravel-pave parking and driving surfaces.
Along with focusing on connecting to the local watershed, we use our site to demonstrate the techniques of designing Bird-Friendly Communities with the planting of native plants, removal of invasive species, structures for wildlife, and anti-bird strike material on our building windows. We hope to inspire others to make positive changes for wildlife in their backyards.
