Nesting season has arrived for birds on Louisiana’s coast. With warmer days, Louisiana’s impressive range of birdy travelers flock to its shores to build their nests and raise their floofy chicks. 

Out of the utmost caution, Audubon Louisiana’s annual efforts to protect the beautiful birds with fencing and other precautions have been put on hold to comply with Louisiana’s stay-at-home order. In a time when we are practicing responsible social distancing from each other, we want to remind everyone to maintain their distance from these beach birds as well.

Over the course of the spring and summer, Audubon Louisiana’s Coastal Stewardship Manager, Katie Barnes, will introduce us to several bird species who nest on our coast in a series of videos. Starting with the Wilson’s Plover, the series focuses on some of our key species and provides helpful tips on how to be a good steward for the birds if you go to the beach. We will all have to #ShareTheShore to ensure our feathered friends have a bright future for years to come.
