#ShareTheShore with Least Terns

As we move through spring, more birds are returning to Louisiana’s beaches for nesting season. Audubon Louisiana’s staff have begun putting up fencing around important beach bird habitat with special permission from the state under Louisiana's stay-at-home order.

As the state moves to loosen some restrictions, traffic on our beaches will likely increase and the birds there will need your help to stay safe. Flocks of fiery, black-crowned Least Terns have already started laying their eggs in the upper dune areas where they will also raise their chicks.

Audubon Louisiana’s Coastal Stewardship Manager, Katie Barnes, introduces us to Least Terns in the second video in our series aimed to provide some helpful tips for beachgoers to share the shore with these feisty little birds. Even as the state slowly reopens, we must remember to continue maintaining a safe distance from each other and our beaked friends.

When we #ShareTheShore, we ensure that these beautiful beach birds will thrive for years to come.
